Images of the impressive Moai figures are a familiar sight on Easter Island, deep in the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>

They are probably the best-known part of the culture of the Rapa Nui people who live there.<\/p>

There are an incredible 887 human Moai figures on the island.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>

The Rapa Nui are believed to have settled on the island (also known as Rapa Nui) between 300 and 1200 CE\/AD and the figures are thought to have been carved from volcanic rock between 1250 and 1500 CE.<\/p>

The Moai are of historic, archaeological and spiritual importance to the Rapa Nui, thought to represent ancestral figures although some mystery still surrounds them.<\/p>

The Polynesian island in the Pacific Ocean is one of the most isolated inhabited islands in the world.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>

It's a Chilean territory but over 3,200km away from the mainland.<\/p>

So like many of us dealing with the Coronavirus lockdown at the moment, the Moai would know what it's like to be isolated. Though they wouldn't have needed to worry about entertaining the kids, how to make a face mask or constant Zoom parties.<\/p>
